A dyed-in-the-wool East Coaster (Boston, Vermont, and now New York) who lived in Seattle for twelve years and Salzburg, Austria for one, Anna has worked as an opera singer, a salmon biologist, a trash hauler, and a whitewater kayaking instructor among seemingly hundreds of other jobs. From this strange mix of geography and occupations comes her own poignant take on Americana and Alt-country- the dark alleyways and rolling hills, the conquistadors haunting the ocean floor, the girls with red shoes, the lonely ex-pats, and the legions of breaking hearts. Never content to stick to one genre, Anna is described by roots authority ‘No Depression’ as having a “chameleon-like knack for molding her music to a specific genre’s sound, and then for transcending that sound.” She did this in 2005, with her first record (with band north19), the country-roots “Glory”, which earned her an in-studio on Seattle tastemaker station KEXP’s “Swinging’ Doors” and weeks at the top of their charts. She returned in 2007 with “Sleepwalker” and in 2010 with “The Nocturnal Among Us”, which was produced by JD Foster (Calexico, Laura Cantrell) and debuted at #1 on the Euro-Americana charts. Her 2011 album release, “The Wasted Ocean” (produced by Evan Brubaker) was described as “album of the year” by the Sheffield Star (UK), and “absolutely gorgeous” by BBC Radio2’s Iain Anderson. The album received extensive airplay on the BBC and Irish National Radio, and cemented her place as one of the rising stars in today’s Americana scene.

Anna traveled to Rome during Holy Week in 2012 to record a two-day live session with her touring partner, Italian guitarist Daniele Fiaschi. The result of this weekend is “The Nowhere, Rome Sessions”, a gorgeous snapshot of their duo work. Recorded live at Nowhere Studios in Rome, with minimal overdubs and even fewer edits, the songs ache with emotion and the raw energy the two are known for. The album was quickly signed to Dutch label CRS, and received a well-deserved 4* review in Daily Telegraph as well as several weeks on KEXP’s top 10 charts. After an intensive start to 2013 with packed houses in Seattle, Portland, and NYC as well as a support slot for Taj Mahal in Ithaca, NY, Anna took several months off the road for songwriting sessions and a surprise return to classical singing. She is currently in the midst of several new projects that will debut in 2014, including writing and recording an album with long time friend and producer JD Foster (Patty Griffin, Dwight Yokum) and preparing her first ever full band tour of Europe with JD Foster on bass, Daniele Fiaschi on guitar, and Brian Wilson (Jamie Lidell, Neko Case) on drums.
